Nottingham GNU/Linux Users Group

Robin Tux

The Nottingham GNU/Linux Users Group is a community of computing enthusiasts spanning Nottighamshire and beyond who wish to promote the use of free and open source software with an emphasis on the GNU/Linux operating system created by and for the community.

Our members encompass all skill levels and interests, so there should be something for everyone. Membership is free and open to all, so get involved!

Our primary form of communication is our members mailing list. Feel free to subscribe and contribute to the discussion (see here for more details), or just browse the archives here.

We hold regular social and technical meetings which are open to anyone who has an interest in Linux and Free software. Especially welcome are those who are seeking help with Linux. Our usual venue for tech meetings and talks is upstairs at the Navigation pub where we have use of the function room with free WiFi access (when it's working)! This year we have the first Thursday of each month scheduled at the Navigation and we'll squeeze a social in the weeks between!

Folks,

Supercomputer bits 'n' bobs - How to compute the "Super"

In our last talk we heard the names Babbage, Turing, Flowers, Cray and
others in passing. There are a few more names and stories and devices to
tell for where Supercomputers are now.

Keeping with the "Super" bits and following on from (or following
before) our last Supercomputers talk, I hope to give a 'prequel' talk to
give a feel for what the /Super/ /is/ in "Supercomputers".

(And Linux just happens to be the OS for most of the top 100 rated
computers in the world.)
