I get my first 5x5, a white EastSheen from puzl.co.uk - one of those "oh, just get yourself something nice and I'll give you the money" sort of Xmas presents!

Having owned a 7x7x7 for some months, the 5x5x5 came with no surprises except how easy it was! More fun than the 4x4x4 which I was still having trouble with (parity algorithm memorisation trouble!) and quicker to complete than the 7x7x7 which was still taking me around 30 minutes although I wasn't timing myself.

Such a brilliant puzzle! I can only imagine what i was like for puzzle enthusiasts when the 5x5 first came out. Like the 4x4 it can be solved by reduction: solve the centres, solve the edges, then solve as a 3x3x3. When I started doing the speedsolving.com weekly competition I started timing my 5x5 solves and looking for ways to improve and I find that solving the centres of the 5x5x5 can be really satisfying.
