Tamagotchi LCD screen
Using mobile phone parts: Consider the almost throwaway object of an old broken mobile phone - a decent battery, an LCD screen, a keypad, a speaker, backlights, bluetooth capabilities, on-board memory, etc. A great cheap source for interesting hardware.
